Detailed Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi
3 Days Bwindi gorilla trekYour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe at 6am and transfer you to Bwindi Forest national park. En route stop over at the Equator will allow you a chance to witness the water experience, have breakfast and explore some of the souvenir shops for souvenir shopping. You will proceed and have another stop in Mbarara at Igongo cultural centre for a cultural experience in case it is your interest and have lunch there if you arrive at an appropriate time. En route to Mbarara , you will be welcomed by zebras and some antelopes along the roadside cattle farms in Sanga area as they explore a little further beyond the boundaries of L. Mburo national park. You will continue for a scenic drive that allows you to enjoy the beautiful and varied country side. The road winds through a stunning mosaic hill scenery all the way to Bwindi. Arrive early enough in the evening to relax and study the geography of the area. Overnight stay at Buhoma Community Rest Camp / Bakiga community lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking
After a good and delicious local breakfast, hike to the park headquarters just 100 meters from the lodge for a briefing by the park ranger. At 8.30am local time, you will be transferred to the starting point for the gorilla trek. This expeditious trek requires you to start it with your packed lunch as no one can ever predict the time you will spend to see the gorillas. The time taken may range between 2 hrs to 8 hrs depending on the movement of these apes as they search for food. The expedition is led by experienced trackers who have spent their lives living in or close to the forest and have undergone through training. Once you catch a sight of these endangered apes, all your efforts will be rewarded and your hustles are forgotten as you are guaranteed an hour with them to observe learn and take photographs. As the famous gorilla researcher Dian Fossey wrote: “It was their individuality combined with the shyness of their behavior that remained the most captivating impression of this first encounter with the greatest of the great apes.” If you are looking for a beautiful tropical paradise, you can’t beat this. Time to leave the gorillas to their peaceful lives, in the rainforest. You will return to your lodge to relax and meditate upon your experience as you share stories and sort out photos. In case you have time and energy, you may take an evening walk to visit a local Buhoma Community Primary School – supported and managed by the Bwindi community members that thrive on support from visitors and community efforts. The school’s mission is to create awareness of the environment for sustainable development through quality education. That will be in case you track gorillas in Buhoma section and if you are in Ruhija, a community visit to the Ruhija community is also worthwhile.

A visit to the Batwa pygmies is yet another exciting activity as it gives you a full dose of entertainment as they perform their dances and tell their stories. Overnight at your lodge (Day1)

Day 3: Return to Kampala
After a well-deserved breakfast, you will begin your journey back to Kampala / Entebbe for your departure flight as you wave farewell to the gorilla land. The sight of rolling hills adorned with terraces, evergreen vegetation, crater lakes, tea plantations, forest and savanna grasslands will be a great spectacle on your day’s long journey. En route mini-stops in Mbarara and at the equator and a visit to the drum makers in Mpigi will enable you to stay refreshed on this day’s journey. You will arrive in Kampala in the evening for a transfer to the airport depending on your departure schedule.

NB: For visitors who do not wish to travel long distances you are advised to arrive and depart from Kigali airport in Rwanda, alternatively, you can use charter flights from Kajjansi to Kisoro or Kihihi airfields.
