The 7 Days safari takes you to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s Second largest park sheeting a high number of wild animals and birds. Located in western Uganda, Queen Elizabeth is a savannah game park best for game viewing experiences. Morning and evening game drives in kasenyi plains offer you spectacular views of numerous wild animals which include Buffalos, Elephants, Lions, Warthogs, Leopards, Waterbucks, Uganda kobs, Impalas, Antelopes, Giant forest hogs, Spotted hyenas, Hippos, Topis and Nile crocodiles. The Kyambura gorge shelters the endangered chimpanzees while Ishasha sector is home to the famous tree climbing lions. Queen Elizabeth Park also features the 32 kilometers long and 8 meters deep Kazinga channel which connects Lakes Edward and George. The channel offers you the best boat cruising experiencing with great views of the park, wild water animals and birds on the river banks. Expect to see notable birds such as Hamerkop, Egrets, African Kingfisher,African Jacana, Yellow billed stork, Saddle billed stork, African shoebill and African skimmer among other birds. The experimental lion tracking experience is another interesting activity done in Queen Elizabeth National park.

The 7 Days safari will also take you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park, home to half of the world’s gorilla population. Bwindi Forest is home to over 480 mountain gorillas which live in 21 gorilla families scattered in the four regions (Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija and Nkuringo) which make up the park. The gorilla groups in Bwindi include Nkuringo, Mubare, Mishaya, Rushegura, Bweza, Oruzogo, Kyaguliro, Kutu, Rwigi, Kahungye, Mishay, Bikyingi, Katwe, Christmas, Muyambi, Bitukura, Mucunguzi, and Mukiza gorilla families. Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest require you to have a permit which costs $700 for foreign non residents, $600 for foreign residents and UGX 250,000 for East African citizens. The allowed time with the endangered gorillas is strictly an hour counted from the time you meet them.

Detailed Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Depart Kampala for Queen Elizabeth National Park
Your tour guide will pick you from the hotel or airport depending on the meeting point and drive you to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Western Uganda. This 8 hours drive will allow you en route stopovers at the Equator for photography and water experience as you check out the local craft centres for souvenirs and later at Igongo cultural centre for a lunch break and a deep insight into the Ankole culture. En route views of the zebras in people’s farms around Sanga area will be a signal to you for the existence of rich wildlife in L. Mburo national park a few kilometers off the Mbarara- Masaka highway. You will then proceed through Bunyaruguru Tea Estates and to the crater lakes including Lake Rutoto that has a shape of the map of Africa. Arrive at your lodge in Queen Elizabeth national park. Overnight stay at The Bush Lodge / Enganzi Lodge (Meal Plan: Full Board)

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise on Kazinga channel
7 Days Uganda SafariAfter an early cup of coffee, set out for an early morning game drive in the northern part of the park following the Kasenyi track in search for early risers like lions, jackals and leopard if lucky as they retire from a night hunt as well as elephants, buffaloes and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for a full breakfast, and then lunch later. After lunch, at 2.00 pm assemble at the Mweya Peninsula as you prepare to set off on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel which connects lakes; Edward and George. While on the boat you are likely to see big herds of buffaloes, elephants, monkeys, bushbuck, Uganda Kob, topi, and the Defassa waterbuck, crocodiles, hippos, as well as beautiful birds like Cassin’s grey flycatcher, broad billed roller, and bee-eater among others. Overnight stay at The Bush Loge / Enganzi Lodge (Meal Plan: Full Board)

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking & transfer to Bwindi Forest
Enjoy a hearty breakfast in preparation for the forest walk in search of the chimpanzees. You may track chimpanzees either in Kyambura Gorge or Karinju community Forest. Approximately 1 km across at its broadest point and about 100 meters deep, the stunning Kyambura Gorge also called the “Valley of Apes”, is the longest of its kind in East Africa stretching over 7km long. The gorge is home to about 7 primate species including the man’s closest relative; chimpanzee, the red tailed monkey, olive baboon and the black and white colobus monkey among others as well as a variety of bird species and one of Africa’s few underground rain forests. Later transfer to Bwindi National Park, en route drive through Ishasha sector may reward you with sights of the famous tree-climbing lions as they rest in the huge fig trees taking shelter from the scorching sun. Proceed to Bwindi for an overnight stay at Buhoma Community Rest Camp / Bakiga community lodge

Day 4: Gorilla trekking
7 Days Uganda SafariTake a heavy breakfast early in the morning and head to the park headquarters with packed lunch and at least 2 bottles of drinking water, cameras and binoculars, park for briefing by the senior park ranger. At 8.30 am gorilla trekking begins. Penetrate the dense tropical forest with a tropical green canopy until you encounter the mountain gorillas. Most people who had an opportunity meeting these gentle giants confess that it is the most exciting wildlife experience ever. Park officials will allow you to stay in their presence for one hour. The time taken to encounter the gorillas ranges between an hour and 8 hours. No one can be certain over this since the gorillas live in the wild and keep moving looking for food.

Return to the lodge for relaxation. If you have been lucky finding the gorillas closer, you return to the lodge relatively early and enjoy fresh and warm food. In the evening you can choose from different activities – such as a cultural visit to pygmies communities or visiting other community projects such as beer brewing or conservation projects including tree planting sites. Overnight stay at Buhoma Community Rest Camp or Bakiga Community Lodge depending on the section of the forest.

Day 5: Visit conservation projects in Kisoro
Take off a day to visit the different community conservation projects in Kisoro organized by Biodiversity Conservation for Rural Development (BCRD – Uganda). Learn more about projects in which the Batwa pygmies collaborate to start up different conservation projects. Overnight stay at Mutanda Eco Community Centre at the gate of Mgahinga National Park

Day 6: Golden Monkey tracking
7 Days Uganda safariAfter breakfast transfer to the Mgahinga National Park headquarters for briefing and later begin the hike over the volcanic terrain in search for playful and rare Golden Monkeys in the bamboo forests. Mgahinga National Park shares boarders with Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in DR Congo. The park is also the most scenic as it stands at three volcanoes of Muhavura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo. In the evening the Batwa Trail will be another highlight to crown your day. Listen to their folk tales and songs and visit their caves that acted as refugee places during war times as they take you back in time to give you a deep insight of who they are. Overnight stay at Mutanda Eco Community Centre

Day 7: Transfer to Kampala and Departure
After breakfast transfer back to Kampala as you traverse the scenic Kigezi Highlands, commonly referred to as “the Switzerland of Africa”. Arrive in Kampala by 3.00 pm.
