Planning to go visit gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda,secure your gorilla permit in advance, either through Africa Adventure Safaris or from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or Rwanda Development Board (RDB). Booking a gorilla safari with us saves you the hustle of bookihg a gorilla permit. Upon payment of a deposit for your safari with us, We normally email you a scanned copy of your gorilla permit – thus you are assured of participating in the gorilla trekking experience.
In Uganda, it costs USD 700 per day per person for a gorilla permit. You can get the gorilla tracking passes in Kampala (the capital of Uganda) at the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) headquarters. It is possible to make an international booking for permits using email direct with UWA but they do not accept credit cards so it gets a bit complicated.
In Rwanda, a gorilla permit costs 1500usd accessed from the Rwanda Development Board and Rwanda Tourism Board offices (ORTPN) in Kigali or Ruhengeri (near the PNV) after paying 1500usd.
In the DRC it’s best to just arrange your permit (USD 450).
Gorilla tracking Rules
For those are planning to do a gorilla tracking safari in Uganda, the following information would apply (as set out in the printed leaflet by the Uganda Wildlife Authority ‘Gorilla Rules’). Before departing on your gorilla tracking:
A maximum number of 8 visitors may visit a group of habituated mountain gorillas in a day. This minimizes behavioral disturbance to the gorillas and the risk of their exposure to human-borne diseases.
Always wash your hands before you head out to the gorillas.
